Zombie Weekend!
This past weekend was simply amazing! We were all very excited about it: three whole days getting to hang out with each other in Seaside Park, NJ. A regular weekend is simply not enough time for the group to hang out. I simply couldn't sleep on Thursday night from the excitement, even though inadvertedly skipping dinner didn't help. I had a very early start on Friday as I drove to College Park, MD to pick up AG and
cicerofan74 so the three of us could drive to Newark, DE to meet MB and
faechild_jax. All five of us managed to squeeze ourselves and our stuff into a car that MB rented for the weekend, but it didn't matter...we were nice and cozy as we caught up during our two hour trip to NJ. As we arrived in Seaside Park, we were met by one of the thickest fogs I've encountered on the road (and I thought the fog on my way to College Park was bad!)...not to mention that it seemed like the town was practically abandoned. Since AM's family beachhouse was unavailable, we decided to rent out two apartments in order to fit everyone in. As we found the place we were to stay in, we kept joking that this was the perfect setting for a horror/zombie movie. The showers were really small and to top it all off it was Friday the 13th!! We ended up making all these zombie jokes and comments, but the fog did end up lifting and there ended up being other people around.
Anywayz, after a while, some of us went grocery shopping and by the time we got back, the "northern contingent", or the people in our group who live in Northern NJ and up arrived. Before long, we had all gathered in the downstairs apartment and started chatting, cooking, and simply having a good time.
cicerofan74 made a delicious spaghetti and
pantherofthesun made a yummy salad. Afterwards, the liquor came out and I made my rum punch, which ended up being a great success!(tee hee) After that, how should I put it...things got interesting. All I will say is that the liquor made us do it! I ended up confessing things to people that I didn't think I would confess. But the best part of the night was when AG asked if people wanted to join him for a walk on the beach and in an amazing and indescribably moment of spontaneity, the entire group put on their coats and ran yelling and giggling en masse across the street to the beach, where we all just let loose!
The next day, we had thick and yummy pancakes made my AG. Afterwards, some of us took an excursion to WalMart to buy groceries for dinner and get this...a TV!!(the one that came with the apartment did not have the right inputs for the DVD player...and CE had wanted to buy a new TV for his sister anyway). So while they were at Wal-Mart, RR, JI, AG, MB,
pantherofthesun,
cicerofan74, and I headed for the still-foggy beach to hang out for a bit and to take pictures. Once everyone was back from beach and store, we started on the task of making dinner. MS made some delicious potato scallops and VERY yummy bean dip (I want the recipes!!) and I made my first attempt ever at preparing a brisket. My mom had suggested it as a good dish for a lot of people...I had been pretty nervous about how it would turn out...but it ended up being a LOT easier to prepare than I had thought, and it came out pretty well, much to my relief! We didn't drink as much alcohol that night...at least I didn't because I was still "sore" from the night before...but I do recall drinking a very yummy creme de menthe concoction made my
pantherofthesun...or was that Sunday? Anywayz, a good time was still had by all on Saturday night as we played some really fun games. The group favorite was "Apples to Apples", which we defenitely need to play again at our next gathering! We also played "Pervartistry", which is pretty much a sexual Pictionary/Charades. For some reason, that game had me yelling like a maniac...lol! During that evening, the temperature dropped dramatically and before we knew it, it started to snow! I had never seen snow on a beach before in my life so MB, AG, KG, and I walked over to the beach to take a quick look, since it was freezing outside! It's a good thing I brought my hat, scarf, and gloves because I went from not needing my jacket on Friday to having to bundle myself up on Saturday. I believe it was on this night that we saw the movie "Serenity"...which I had heard a lot about, but figured it wouldn't be my kind of movie, and indeed, it really wasn't...but it defenitely had its charm...and for some reason, I seem to like it more after having watched it than while I was actually watching it. But now I know what all the fuss is about.
The next day, the "southern contingent" woke up to a very cold upstairs apartment. We had bagels for breakfast and during that time, the sky cleared up, so we took a quick walk to the beach. Afterwards, we were getting cabin fever, so we went to a natural foods store outside of Seaside Park. Going to a natural foods store seems to have become a ritual with us, but I like it because I don't get much of a chance to go to one. I got a jar of cashew butter and a stick of natural deodorant for
ihateboys1213. After that, we went to a liquor store (where I saw bottles of Patron tequila for sale!) and later on, to the grocery store to but stuff for our final dinner. After we got back, we started making dinner. MB made some buffalo chicken strips, which I stayed away from since they were too hot (a Mexican-American who doesn't like spicy food! haha!). MS made a VERY yummy pesto chicken recipe (you defenitely gotta give me the recipe!!),
pantherofthesun made the yummy green beans, and I made my spinach dip, which seemed to have turned out well. During that time,
aesthetictrekie finally arrived, and we were very happy to see her! A bit later, the alchohol came out and again, things got "interesting"...very interesting. Anywayz, we were running out of alcohol and we wanted to keep the party going, so in a strange turn of events,
aesthetictrekie, CE, KG, AG, and I went in search of alcohol and managed to find a place. When we came back, hardly anyone was there and the mood had turned rather somber...but to make a long story short, the mood eventually lightened up considerably but things became a lot more low-key, which I think was a good thing. We all went to bed pretty late because we didn't want the evening to be over.
The next day, Monday, we were kind of rushed as we had to vacate the premises by noon and MB had to return the rental car by a certain time. We were scrambling to get rid of all the food that we had bought. I ended up keeping
faechild_jax's vanilla pudding (mmmm!), the butter we had used (my mom was VERY thankful for it, btw), and a nice big bottle of Pinot Grigiot that was never opened (if we don't drink this bottle at home, it might make another appearance at our next gathering!). So once we managed to account for all the food, we, the "southern contingent", got into the car and drove off. Before long, we were back in Newark, where
cicerofan74, AG, and I got into my car and stopped by Cluck U for a late lunch. It was a bit nostalgic for us eating at Cluck U, a favorite hangout among UD students, including us when we were in college. After eating, we headed back to College Park with the sun shining directly in our eyes...hehe. Once we got to AG's place, we had some tea while AG burned copies of one of the CDs he played that weekend for us. I dropped
cicerofan74 off at the train station and I headed back home. By the time I got home it was almost 9pm. I had done quite a lot of traveling! But it was very much worth it!
