Glorious Friday!

Hooray! It's Friday! I have to say, this week went by pretty slowly, but that was because it was a pretty good week at work for once. On Wednesday, my supervisor took my other coworker and I to lunch at this AWESOME restaurant called "The Square Cafe". It's a 50's/mod themed restaurant with YUMMY food...especially their sweet potato fries...their are better than The Library's (and cheaper)! And of course, at work people are bringing cookies and other sweets every day...no wonder they have nicknamed December "Fat Month"!
I want to give out a slightly belated Happy Birthday! shoutout to [livejournal.com profile] ihateboys1213...not that she'll be reading this, but nonetheless I just wanted to mention that yesterday was her birthday...
Today is the birthday of both my supervisor and an LJ-less friend R.H. Happy birthday to both!

So I was feeling a bit LOLCat-ish...but then I went LOL-Crazy!

Yesterday, I got to catalog a box set that included the Spanish translation of Cosmographiae introductio, which was apparently originally written in Latin in 1507 by a Martin Waldseemüller. It also included the facsimile of the original booklet plus an accompanying map, also created by Waldseemüller, called Universalis Cosmographia Secundum Ptholomaei Traditionem et Americi...(and so on, and so forth), as both a print facsimile and a computer scan of it on CD-ROM. Story about the original map )
I, as well as my fellow catalogers, usually consult (consult the Book of Armaments!--sorry) the Library of Congress online library catalog to help us make cataloging decisions, since, you know, they're supposed to be the standard in that ;-) Well, I looked up the Cosmographiae introductio and sure enough, I found the record for the originuhl 1507 booklet (apparently, more booklets survived than maps), as well as the record for that gazillion-dollar map. And what is the first thing that came to mind as I stared at the record? It was LOC gloating LOLCat-style "WE HAS IT". So then, I got this rush of inspiration to make LOL-style macros inspired by this map-thingy.
Blah, blah, blah, if you wanna read it )

This image comes from one of the top corners of the Waldseemüller Map, but I think it's been "artificially" colored. I didn't think of doing something like this originally but I think it came out pretty well. Maybe I should have written "Uhmerikuh" instead?

The LOC record that inspired all this in the first place...

This isn't the actual gazillion-dollar map, but is actually a smaller map that is part of the Cosmographiae introductio. It's just that I had a hard time finding a picture of the actual one on display...

So...what do y'all think? Questions, comments...*wince* snide remarks? ;-)
