So this evening, I decided to start listening to a live recording of a Smashing Pumpkins show from 1992. In the meanwhile, I was going through some old computer files that I have stored on my external hard drive, as I tend to do from time to time. Sometimes, I'll go to a particular file called "Pumpkins" in which I kept a log for a brief period of time in the late summer of 1995...a short "computer diary" if you will. I named the file "Pumpkins" because I was crazy about the Smashing Pumpkins (and particularly Billy Corgan) at the time, and indeed, I mention them more than several times on this "log." Anyway, I was reading some of the entries when I came across this:
Before going home, I begged my dad to take us to his office so I could "surf the Net" on his computer. See, my dad has Netscape, a really awsome World Wide Web browser and it is the neatest, most interesting thing I have ever seen. They even have, not one, but several Smashing Pumpkins home pages!! C-ya.
Hilarious! I used to love going to my dad's office so I could goof around on Netscape, back when Yahoo was a simple directory of "cool websites"
I later noticed that the entry I wrote was written on this very day in 1995! And the time stamp on the log indicated that I wrote it around 10:23pm...almost to the very hour! It's kind of a surreal thing. Listening to the Smashing Pumpkins during their best period musically, reading something I wrote around that same time...I read the entry again and found a reference to an impending Hurricane Humberto (right now there's an impending Hurricane Irene)!! I tell you, the more things change...you end up right where you were!
Anyways, all I have to say is: Thank God for text files! I have letters I wrote and papers I wrote for school that I can no longer read because they're in an old MS Works format...
