So I'm reading the Spanish translation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets or Harry Potter y la cámara secreta. As I began to read it, it became quite obvious that it was translated by someone from Spain. The vocabulary is slightly different to what I'm used to and more importantly, they use the "vosotros" verb form that is no longer used in Mexico and the rest of Latin America. And while I can understand it, it sounds/reads very stilted and odd to my ears/eyes. Oh, and their imperative form sounds odd too... "Venid!"(or "Venir!") in Spain as opposed to "Ven!" in Latin America.

My first thought was to demand a Latin American translation of Harry Potter...but now I'm thinking that perhaps it makes sense to have a translation from Spain since Harry Potter does take place in Europe (or at least on the other side of that Atlantic Ocean pond/lake thingy), hence the Spanish counterpart should be from their side of that pond (England is to the United States as Spain is to Latin America?).

Maybe it's just me that feels this way, considering that this is the first time I'm reading a full-length book in Spanish. Still...my heart keeps telling me that there should be a Latin American translation of Harry Potter (would anyone happen to know if there IS one?)...at least it would make for a bit more enjoyable reading. I wonder if fully-educated Latin American readers would agree with me.
