Ithaca Part IV
Oct. 16th, 2007 06:44 amFor those of you who don't know, I was in Ithaca this weekend. I had a really good time going to NG's coworker's farewell party, accompanying NG in his househunting (looking at a few decrepit-looking places as well as one "possibility"--but one is all you need, right? ;-)), and overall just spending time with NG. However, among the highlights of my trip was getting to see AS, a friend from high school that I hadn't seen in about 10 years. She became one of my very good friends when she moved to my hometown when I was a freshman (and she a sophomore) in high school. Actually, I met her mother first (who had become friends with my mom), but I knew I would get along with her when she said, "Ah, my daughter, she would rather be reading about science than putting on makeup." Sure enough, we got along great but unfortunately, like many of my good friends before and since, she and her family moved to another state at the end of her junior year. She came back a year later for her high school graduation (which was a really memorable time). After that, we would stay in touch on and off until about three years ago, when I stopped hearing from her altogether. I pretty much figured I wouldn't hear from her again. Then, as some of you might know, sometime during this summer's craziness, through the wonders of Facebook, she found my profile and sent me a friend request! And much to my very pleasant surprise, she was set to move to Ithaca in the fall to attend business school! Of all places! To make a long story short, we've been keeping in touch through Facebook and when I planned my latest trip to Ithaca, I knew I had to get together with her so we made plans and got together at a nearby Japanese restaurant (of all places!) because she happens to like Japanese food too (and even studied Japanese briefly in college)! We had so much to talk about! I would have spent more time with her or met up with her again if I was in Ithaca longer.
It's funny how things turn out sometimes....
I look forward to meeting up with her again and hopefully she will no longer be an "old friend from high school" but simply a "friend."
