If you're interested, comment and I'll give you a letter. In your journal, list 10 of your favorite songs that begin with that letter. In honor of N.G. [livejournal.com profile] intothebluagain has given me the letter "N". It was not an easy one ;-) But I was able to find some that I actually like:

1. "No Woman, No Cry" by Bob Marley (cover by The Fugees--I heard this one first!)
2. "Nasty Boyz" by Janet Jackson ("My first name ain't baby. It's Janet. Ms. Jackson if you're nasty!") ;-)
3. "New Slang" by The Shins (The only Shins song that begins with the letter "N")
4. "Neon Bible" by Arcade Fire
5. "Nowhere Man" by The Beatles
6. "Nightswimming" by REM
7. "Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)" by Arcade Fire (the actually have Neighborhood #2 and #3, but I decided not to cheat on that one ;-))
8. "Nova" by Kingsbury Manx
9. "Nuclear War" by Yo La Tengo
10. "November Rain" by Guns n' Roses (thanks for the hint [livejournal.com profile] intothebluagain!!)

Took a cue from both [livejournal.com profile] dancerdiva and [livejournal.com profile] neuroticguy81. Now I can do the entire year!

Go to your Calendar and find the first entry for each month of 2006. Post the first line of each entry in your journal, and that's your "Year In Review".

January: Hello Everyone! I hope everyone had a great New Year's Eve!
February: What a day...It started out by waking up earlier than I usually do to go to work because my dad's flight was arriving at 9:30 am...in Philadelphia, so we had to leave pretty early.
March: So today at 3:20, I'm going to read out loud at the library for Read Across America, which commemorates Dr. Seuss's birthday.
April: For Part II, I am writing about two “goals” that both have to do with spending less time on the Internet, which has both its good and bad points.
May: Today at work, I felt like I had sipped some Felix Felicis (if you've read book 6 of the Harry Potter series then you'll know what I'm talking about).
June: Writing those last two entries made me feel better...I will confess, I was inspired by a new book we received at the library.
July: There comes a time...in a woman's life...when she gets all domestic and sh**.
August: In spite of the many things I have to do and the clock ticking down the days 'till Pittsburgh, I've managed to find some time to update this LJ...
September: First of all, I gotta say this: YouTube is CRACK, PURE CRACK.
October: So today I went to the grocery store to do some proper grocery shopping for ingredients for a rosemary chicken recipe and for other recipes I'm planning on.
November: Back in September, there was a student political group on campus that had a table where you could fill out a form to register to vote.
December: I got an account upgrade courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] slashtacular...a GREAT BIG Kudos to you!!

Well, if you go strictly by this meme, my year seems kinda blah, but it was anything but that. So much happened this year...Moving to a new city and going back to school. It seems hard to believe that only six months ago I was still living at home, working at the local library. It seems like I've been in Pittsburgh a lot longer than 4 months. But I survived the semester and am now back home for Winter Break. I told myself that if I could make it through the first semester, I would be ok...so once I take it easy this Winter Break, I'll be ready for some more ;-)
burendasan4: (Default)
At first, I "made" made my own LJ icons by simply shrinking pictures (usually of actors I thought were cute) on Paint. In other words, I'm not very creative when it comes to making LJ icons and I'm kind of lazy too, so I usually go scrounging around LJ icon communities for icons that pertain to my favorite things (yes, I am guilty of movie quote icons ;-)). I was kind of glad that [livejournal.com profile] slashtacular came up with this meme because I had wanted to write about why I had chosen my current default icon...now I get to write about all six! So I guess in this entry, I am obligated to credit the makers of the icons I currently use. But I must say, my admiration goes out to them for taking the time to make such beautiful icons! I could never do such a good job. Here's the meme:

User icons are a great way to express who you are. What do your icons mean to you? Write a few sentences about each of your icons, and pass this along to your friends!

"Patronus"Harry Potter details. Skip if you don't want to read )

"Rotten"Read more... )

"Garden State"...or This Song Will Change Your Life )

"Felix Felicis"More Harry Potter details. Skip if you don't want to read )

"Napoleon Dynamite"...or Your Mom Goes to College )

"Voldemart"Read more... )

Now it's YOUR turn to write about your icons!

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions in your livejournal along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 people to see what they're listening to.

1. Age of Consent - New Order -- I first heard it when I saw the trailer for Sophia Coppola's upcoming movie "Marie Antoinette" (which I am SO going to see, I don't care what that haters say about the movie). Its rambling, ethereal quality strangely fit with the 1700's scenery of the trailer. But anywayz, I love to listen to this surreal sounding song and sometimes I think of my experience with someone who was much older than me (even though I was way over the "age of consent" ;-))

2. Gloating Sun - The Shins (in fact, almost any Shins song) -- I listened to the Shins so much on my train rides while in Japan that I always think of Japan when I listen to Shins songs, especially this one...I can almost see the landscape passing me by.

3. Hey Mama - Kanye West -- I usually find songs dedicated to someone's mother kinda cheesy, but I like this one. In it, Kanye West talks of wanting to make his mother proud, saying, "I promise you I'm going back to school", which is a sentiment I am relating to at the moment.

4. Genius of Love - The Tom-Tom Club -- It's just a great wacky and upbeat song that "takes me away"...this song and also "Wordy Rappinghood" by the same artists.

5. Homens - Manu Chao -- It's a song in Portuguese whose title means "Men". Its basic message is that there are so many men to choose from! I like to listen to this song whenever I feel down about men or when things don't go well with them.

6. Nuclear War - Yo La Tengo -- While the message behind the song is rather serious (or so I take it to be), the song itself is very silly, with a lot of repeated phrases that are funny. The first time I heard it, I was driving on the New Jersey Turnpike at around 10:30 at night, exhausted. Before long, I was loudly singing along, bopping my head, and drummin out the beat. Just what I needed to perk me up.

7. Dreams - The Game -- This hip-hop "joint" is harsh at times, but one can identify with the sentiment of persevering and not letting obstacles get in the way of your dreams. Makes you want to go out and accomplish big things.

Once you've been tagged, you have to write a blog with seven random facts about yourself. In the end you need to choose seven people to be tagged and list their names.

1. At one point, I had one million yen in a Japanese bank.
2. As a kid, I insisted on only eating the skin part of the chicken.
3. I was the third tallest girl in my sixth grade class.
4. After years of not liking very spicy food, I now like wasabi.
5. I have never dated a Mexican guy (and I am Mexican).
6. I don't like raisins in ceral or in cookies, but I don't mind eating raisins by themselves.
7. I was in my high schools's Ensemble choir, which was a highly enjoyable experience for me.

I tag: [livejournal.com profile] slashtacular(you know I had to), [livejournal.com profile] thevortex, [livejournal.com profile] tovaks, [livejournal.com profile] aesthetictrekie (if you're around...if not, don't worry about it), [livejournal.com profile] ihateboys1213(if you even CHECK your LJ anymore ;-)), [livejournal.com profile] feste9784, and [livejournal.com profile] pantherofthesun.

Go to your Calendar and find the first entry for each month of 2005. Post the first line of each entry in your journal, and that's your "Year In Review".

I've only been on LJ since September, but I'm doing this anyway ;-)

September: Hey everyone! This is my first LJ entry everrrr!
October: The other day, I was "googling" my name, as everyone is wont to do once in a while.
November: For one, my stiff-upper-lip coworker posted an entry on the staff message board about an incident involving some unruly patrons.
December: I didn't know I was the type to set someone's puppy on fire!

Hehe...I didn't know my year would end in flames ;-)

I defenitely gotta do this again next year. By then I'll be able to comment on a whole year...
