Jul. 14th, 2006 09:32 pmList seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions in your livejournal along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 people to see what they're listening to.
1. Age of Consent - New Order -- I first heard it when I saw the trailer for Sophia Coppola's upcoming movie "Marie Antoinette" (which I am SO going to see, I don't care what that haters say about the movie). Its rambling, ethereal quality strangely fit with the 1700's scenery of the trailer. But anywayz, I love to listen to this surreal sounding song and sometimes I think of my experience with someone who was much older than me (even though I was way over the "age of consent" ;-))
2. Gloating Sun - The Shins (in fact, almost any Shins song) -- I listened to the Shins so much on my train rides while in Japan that I always think of Japan when I listen to Shins songs, especially this one...I can almost see the landscape passing me by.
3. Hey Mama - Kanye West -- I usually find songs dedicated to someone's mother kinda cheesy, but I like this one. In it, Kanye West talks of wanting to make his mother proud, saying, "I promise you I'm going back to school", which is a sentiment I am relating to at the moment.
4. Genius of Love - The Tom-Tom Club -- It's just a great wacky and upbeat song that "takes me away"...this song and also "Wordy Rappinghood" by the same artists.
5. Homens - Manu Chao -- It's a song in Portuguese whose title means "Men". Its basic message is that there are so many men to choose from! I like to listen to this song whenever I feel down about men or when things don't go well with them.
6. Nuclear War - Yo La Tengo -- While the message behind the song is rather serious (or so I take it to be), the song itself is very silly, with a lot of repeated phrases that are funny. The first time I heard it, I was driving on the New Jersey Turnpike at around 10:30 at night, exhausted. Before long, I was loudly singing along, bopping my head, and drummin out the beat. Just what I needed to perk me up.
7. Dreams - The Game -- This hip-hop "joint" is harsh at times, but one can identify with the sentiment of persevering and not letting obstacles get in the way of your dreams. Makes you want to go out and accomplish big things.
Once you've been tagged, you have to write a blog with seven random facts about yourself. In the end you need to choose seven people to be tagged and list their names.
1. At one point, I had one million yen in a Japanese bank.
2. As a kid, I insisted on only eating the skin part of the chicken.
3. I was the third tallest girl in my sixth grade class.
4. After years of not liking very spicy food, I now like wasabi.
5. I have never dated a Mexican guy (and I am Mexican).
6. I don't like raisins in ceral or in cookies, but I don't mind eating raisins by themselves.
7. I was in my high schools's Ensemble choir, which was a highly enjoyable experience for me.
