I Got The Itch to Post...
Sep. 3rd, 2005 01:24 pmThanks to those who gave me a warm welcome to the LJ community by posting their comments! It makes me glad that I started a LiveJournal and it has come closer to persuading me to keep this as my "main" blog/journal or whatever you want to call it. I kept wanting to post to it and customizing it...hehe, I guess it'll be a little at a time. Another thing, if you are a friend of mine or someone I know who has a LiveJoural and you are not already on my friends list...make yourself known! Thanks to those who have already put me on their friends list...
It's such a nice day outside...it's not too hot and not to cold...it's that unexplainable "feeling" of fall approaching. I had wanted to go for a walk, but I'll wait to eat lunch first and do this LJ entry. It's a shame that this summer has been so intolerably hot and that there weren't more days like this. But as my sister G said, right now we're in a transition between seasons, and it won't last very long.
Speakin of sisters...my sister M is back for the second weekend in a row! She's practically recovered from her wisdom teeth removal, so she's been out visiting her friends for the most part...good to see that she's back to normal ;-)
One thing I want to talk about is the tragedy of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina (Check out my 360 Blog entry about it). Since the day before yesterday, I've found myself just drawn to the news on the Internet and on TV to hear updates about everything that's going on there. I even checked out arial photos of the flooded areas. I don't know about everyone else, but I haven't been like this since 9/11 and I daresay, this hurricane has been the most devastating thing to happen to the U.S. since 9/11. It has cast quite a somber mood over the nation. However, I feel that, in spite of the ineffectiveness of response at first, there seems to be a great spirit of service towards the people in the affected area. I am usually not one to donate easily to charities and causes (even though I would like to in the future), but I ended up donating to the Red Cross, which I feel has always done so much to help people, worldwide. If you want to donate too, just click on the link on my IM profile.
Well, I have to go...sister M is scowling because I'm using the computer.

Date: 2005-09-04 06:42 pm (UTC)While many people were not physically able to evacuate the area, you're right...all able-bodied people should have evacuated before the storm hit. I read an article today about what our area would do in case a hurricane like Katrina hit us (we live in a high risk area) and it concluded that if Katrina taught us anything, it taught us that we should heed evacuation orders because it makes things a lot easier and prevents tragedies like the one in New Orleans.

Date: 2005-09-05 01:17 am (UTC)I'm personally on the fence as well, but for a different reason: they were predicting some situation, whether from levee deterioration or global warming raising the tides 30 years down the road or what have you, where a scenario like this played out. They could've planned a lot better for it... I mean it makes no sense to have a city below sea level and not have an idea how to prepare for a problem like this. I mean this is the wrong time to get up on a pulpit like this, but I'm just wondering why it wasn't thought of before... My heart goes out to everyone (including a few of my friends) whose families lost EVERYTHING...

Date: 2005-09-05 05:15 am (UTC)I do understand dancerdiva's point...it's good to experience and see both sides of the fence..its sad but not sad...people are responsible for what happens to them..as cold as it sounds...
erm anyway..I didn't get to post on your LJ or yahoo blogs...so this is my comment!! Congradulations on finally joining the LJTrix!!! Yes, excuse the redundancy: The LJ has you!!!! You have been assimilated!!! You still have the right to get out and convert us over!!!
j/k lol..the lazy part of me is saying,"its easier on me to read and reply to your posts so I can inform you I've read them.I don't have to click or type in a separate address just to read what you've written".
