Thanks to those who gave me a warm welcome to the LJ community by posting their comments! It makes me glad that I started a LiveJournal and it has come closer to persuading me to keep this as my "main" blog/journal or whatever you want to call it. I kept wanting to post to it and customizing it...hehe, I guess it'll be a little at a time. Another thing, if you are a friend of mine or someone I know who has a LiveJoural and you are not already on my friends list...make yourself known! Thanks to those who have already put me on their friends list...
It's such a nice day outside...it's not too hot and not to cold...it's that unexplainable "feeling" of fall approaching. I had wanted to go for a walk, but I'll wait to eat lunch first and do this LJ entry. It's a shame that this summer has been so intolerably hot and that there weren't more days like this. But as my sister G said, right now we're in a transition between seasons, and it won't last very long.
Speakin of sisters...my sister M is back for the second weekend in a row! She's practically recovered from her wisdom teeth removal, so she's been out visiting her friends for the most part...good to see that she's back to normal ;-)

One thing I want to talk about is the tragedy of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina (Check out my 360 Blog entry about it). Since the day before yesterday, I've found myself just drawn to the news on the Internet and on TV to hear updates about everything that's going on there. I even checked out arial photos of the flooded areas. I don't know about everyone else, but I haven't been like this since 9/11 and I daresay, this hurricane has been the most devastating thing to happen to the U.S. since 9/11. It has cast quite a somber mood over the nation. However, I feel that, in spite of the ineffectiveness of response at first, there seems to be a great spirit of service towards the people in the affected area. I am usually not one to donate easily to charities and causes (even though I would like to in the future), but I ended up donating to the Red Cross, which I feel has always done so much to help people, worldwide. If you want to donate too, just click on the link on my IM profile.

Well, I have to go...sister M is scowling because I'm using the computer.

I don't think this comes close to 9/11. Many of us had no idea anything was going on in the South for awhile. People weren't calling each other up going "Oh my god turn on the news". At least no one called me. And when I found out, I didn't feel the urge to call people and tell them either. I'm kind of on the fence about this whole thing. Yeah, it's horrible, but when people get warnings to evacuate... shouldn't they, um, evacuate? I'm not gonna pretend I know everything there is to know about this event, and yes of course it's a tragedy, but I don't like the fact that people are being chastised because they're not upset enough, or whatever.

LOL, sorry I picked your journal to ramble about all this in. It just kinda came pouring out.

Well, it's true that this recent even didn't cause the shock around the country...and around the world that September 11 did. What I meant to say is that the this event and it's consequences has affected the entire country...people from all over the U.S. are offering their services to those affected. I did not say that everyone had to be upset over this event, I just wanted to express that personally, I was moved to make a donation to the Red Cross.
While many people were not physically able to evacuate the area, you're right...all able-bodied people should have evacuated before the storm hit. I read an article today about what our area would do in case a hurricane like Katrina hit us (we live in a high risk area) and it concluded that if Katrina taught us anything, it taught us that we should heed evacuation orders because it makes things a lot easier and prevents tragedies like the one in New Orleans.

it's true, more should've been done to evacuate the people. Unfortunately, most of the people who were left during the flooding were too poor to get out and/or had no access to transportation. The FMA was trying to do all it could by contracting buses and helicopters, but there was just no way to get everyone out.
I'm personally on the fence as well, but for a different reason: they were predicting some situation, whether from levee deterioration or global warming raising the tides 30 years down the road or what have you, where a scenario like this played out. They could've planned a lot better for it... I mean it makes no sense to have a city below sea level and not have an idea how to prepare for a problem like this. I mean this is the wrong time to get up on a pulpit like this, but I'm just wondering why it wasn't thought of before... My heart goes out to everyone (including a few of my friends) whose families lost EVERYTHING...

Yeah, I don't know why I cried about it..I knew nothing about it nor did I study the news on it or ask anyone anything--One superficial connection is that I knew someone who the hurricane shares the same name with---if there's any strange connection at all. I didn't cry about 9/11 when it occurred..but I cried about this. Only back in April/May, when SS said that there would be a huge natural disaster sometime this year or next and that gas prices would be affected,I had cried about it and wondered if I could anticipate it or avoid it...thanks it didn't affect the northern east coast but at the same time we're all affected----I don't have to explain that to others.
I do understand dancerdiva's point...it's good to experience and see both sides of the fence..its sad but not sad...people are responsible for what happens to them..as cold as it sounds...
erm anyway..I didn't get to post on your LJ or yahoo blogs...so this is my comment!! Congradulations on finally joining the LJTrix!!! Yes, excuse the redundancy: The LJ has you!!!! You have been assimilated!!! You still have the right to get out and convert us over!!!
j/k lol..the lazy part of me is saying,"its easier on me to read and reply to your posts so I can inform you I've read them.I don't have to click or type in a separate address just to read what you've written".
we must convert more!!! muahahaha.
peace
