I was re-reading (for the 20th time)the application requirements for College Park, when I noticed that I had to send an ADDITIONAL set of documents to the GELS (Joint Geography/Library Science program)Coordinator Office. I have already sent out the letter of recommendation materials (envelopes, forms, etc)to my professors, so I was freaking out about having to ask them to send yet another copy of their letter. So in order to verify that indeed I had to send three copies, I tried calling the GELS office and the number ended up belonging to some random person, so I called another number, and the appropriate person answered thankufully. After I asked her about the letters, she went on to tell me that the GELS program is no longer in existence!! And all this time all the information on GELS was STILL on the web! So I said to her, "Um well, the GELS program information is still on the web" and she simply said, "We will be updating it in January." Now granted, perhaps I should have called sooner to inquire about the program, but with all the information on the website, I didn't have a reason to call. But still...wouldn't you want to update the website especially since it involves something as complicated as the GELS program? I suppose the program no longer exists because of lack of interest...Why do I always end up being interested in things/programs that have a lack of interest?? Sorry, need to rant. Anywayz, needless to say, I was in shock. All the mental effort to motivate myself to do the double work that applying for the program involved...I realize that I had gotten pretty "emotionally involved." I mean, I had really wanted to do this double degree. So now I will simply be applying to their Library Science program, and will be able to concentrate more on Archives Management. The lady told me that the joint History/Library Science program still exists, but to be honest, I am not really interested in earning a master's in History at the moment--heck, I wouldn't even know what time period to specialize in. And while yes, now there won't be as much work involved (applying for and actually earning my master's), I had to go back and email my professors telling them that I wouldn't be applying for GELS and now I will have to revise my essay so it won't reflect my interest in GELS. *sigh* I know, I know...whine, whine, whine...but I'll be ok. :-P Next on my list, I have to send my pile of transcript requests to UD and then call Soka and beg them for 7 or 8 copies of my Soka transcripts...
But now, I must get ready for the Library's holiday (ok, ok Christmas)party (nod to [livejournal.com profile] thevortex) being held at the Library director's house. I have a feeling it will be much more subdued than last year's Christmas Dance at the hospital (Mad Dog, jello shooters, and alcohol-serving ice sculptures, anyone?). ;-)
