I had quite a weekend! No other than
slashtacular came to visit the hinterlands of Pittsburgh to look at a perspective grad school. He was set to arrive Thursday at around 7pm, but because of a flight cancellation,
slashtacular's plane didn't arrive until MIDNIGHT. The upside is that I had plenty of time to do grocery shopping for the weekend. Anywayz, after I picked him up at the airport, I took him to his hotel, where he was set to stay for the night. I'm glad he got to Pittsburgh ok and on time for his information session/open house.
The next day, I had work all day...it was long, tiring day, but a very good one (and I'll leave it at that). Afterwards, I went back home to get the car and pick up
slashtacular so he could take his luggage to my apartment, where he stayed for the rest of the weekend. Afterwards we went to Squirrel Hill where we had dinner at a Thai/Filipino restaurant. I was curious about the Filipino food, but both of us ended up ordering Thai.
Saturday was quite a day. We went to the Duquesne Incline so
slashtacular could get a very nice view of the city. Then we hung out at the nearby Station Square where we had lunch. I showed him the uber-Steelers store that had every kind of Pittsburgh sports-related paraphernalia you can think of. We also stopped by the Hard Rock Cafe, where I got a Pittsburgh shot glass (another one to my collection--you know I had to). Then, we went to Starbucks, where I fell in love with a teacup and saucer set. Not wanting a repeat of the thermos affair (wink at NG), I went ahead and bought the set, which I'm really happy about. Afterwards, we went to CMU for a Trade Fair run by local artists. I really wish I had more cash on me so I could buy some of the things for sale. They were expensive but I would have liked to support them in some way. We walked around campus for a bit and then took a quick look at their library, which I was happy about because it was my first time there. In the evening, I invited some friends over to meet
slashtacular and give him their impressions about Pittsburgh. It ended up being a lot of fun. Food, drinks, music, and guitar playing make for a nice time. It was my second time e-VER entertaining in my apartment and overall, I think it was a success.
We went to bed pretty late but the next day we had to get up fairly early so I could take
slashtacular back to the airport. It was raining pretty hard on the way there so I was worried his flight would get cancelled, but it wasn't, thank goodness! Anywayz, it was nice to actually see
slashtacular IN PERSON.
