I know I haven't written much during these past few months, so I figured that now I'm on break, I should take the time to write about how it's been so far...
Having been overcome by some nauseating feeling the night before I was to leave (perhaps from the cleaning products I used to clean my kitchen and bathroom), I went to bed not having done much packing or cleaning. So on Friday, by some miracle, I got up around 8 or so and managed to get packing, tidy up, and vacuum before I left for Ithaca just before noon--exactly the time I told NG I would leave. Well, after a six hour drive, I arrived at Ithaca. Shortly afterwards, we got ready to meet some of his coworkers at a popular Japanese dictionary. It was absolutely delicious! I had a rice bowl topped with eel in a special sauce (I was hoping they would serve it in sushi form like they do in Japan). Too bad I got so full quickly. I had a very nice time though.
On Saturday, NG and I ended up having a lazy day. We had breakfast in bed and for "lunch", we had some yummy blueberry pancakes. He took me to Ithaca Falls and later on we watched "The World's Fastest Indian", in which Anthony Hopkins plays a New Zealander who travels to the United States to race his motorcycle. NG really likes this movie...I think this movie is for him what "Lost In Translation" was to me. For dinner, we also had leftover chili with some shredded cheddar cheese that I brought with me from Pittsburgh (in fact, there was a lot of food that I didn't want to throw away that I brought with me and was able to eat most of it in Ithaca). It was yummy!
Sunday was quite a day! First, we went to Taughannock Falls, which we visited the first time I came to Ithaca. Back then, the falls were half frozen over. This time, the weather was beautiful and we were able to walk the path to the bottom of the falls. Afterwards, we crossed the road and relaxed in a park right in front of Lake Cayuga. Then, we drove to Buttermilk Falls. The main waterfall was impressive in itself, but then there was a trail that ran up along that main waterfall, which we decided to walk on. Well, it was a LOT steeper and a lot longer than we had anticipated, but what we saw along the trail was impressive. There were some lovely waterfalls hidden behind some gorges (Ithaca, after all, is gorges!) and there was greenery beginning to grow on some of the rock. Even though we ended up not walking the entire trail, it was definitely worth the climb.
Very sad to leave NG, I left Ithaca on Monday at around 9am. During the long drive home, I made two rest stops and an hour-long stop in Newark to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] ihateboys1213 at Dunkin Donuts. It was really nice talking to her. The stopover did me well and energized me for the last two hours of the trip. I got home around 5:30 pm. When my mom got home from work a bit later, we had dinner and then she dragged me to Salisbury University for a performance by a Chinese drumming/percussion group. The performance was very good and I ended up really enjoying it. I found it very similar to the energetic Japanese taiko. I also ended up running into someone I went to high school with. Apparently, she will be graduating from SU in three weeks. It was very nice seeing her and I am very happy for her and all her accomplishments.
Since then, I've been taking it pretty easy, even though there have been a lot of small things that I need to get done. And so far, I've been pretty good about getting stuff done, like laundry (yay FREE laundry!), washing my car, and setting up a time to meet with two former co-workers from my hospital days. Also, I've been sleeping VERY well, better than I have in a long time. Tomorrow, my mom and I are going to Newark to take [livejournal.com profile] ihateboys1213 to her appointment and to also go shopping. For my mother, shopping is way to bond with me, and I'm not going to argue with that anymore ;-) Before we leave, I'm going to try my chai tea recipe again.
