Weekend

I know I should be doing my work, but I really want to write about my weekend. Saturday morning and early afternoon I spent mostly trying to tidy up the place, which I managed to do somewhat, in preparation for NG coming for the long weekend. He arrived not long after I finished tidying up. Later on, we had dinner across the street at Qdoba's (where I ate almost an entire burrito!), did a nearly-midnight run to the grocery store (above all to get TP, which I had run out of!!), and relaxed before going to sleep. On Saturday, we had lunch at a Mexican restaurant called Veracruz. The food was pretty authentic and with drinking Mexican apple cider/soda and the Spanish channel going in the background, I almost felt like I was back in Mexico. We were lazy bums for most of the day, but in the late afternoon, we went to a Borders down the road from where I live, which I had gone to only once before. NG had a gift certificate that he wanted to spend and I had almost forgotten that there's one fairly nearby that I had gone to, to get a last-minute birthday present for one of my classmates. Anyway, at Borders, I found this really nice-looking book on Japanese cooking and lately I've been looking for a good book on how to make sushi. I wasn't sure if I should buy it or not...didn't want to make an impulse buy, you know. So NG made up my mind for me and bought it for me. I'm so glad he did because afterwards, I couldn't stop flipping through the book and getting all sorts of ideas for future Japanese-cooking endeavors. I also had a yummy chocolate/peanut butter drink at their Seattle's Best and decided to get a Borders Member Card, so now I have more "incentive" to go buy stuff at Borders (nod and wink to [livejournal.com profile] faechild_jax).
That evening, we met up with my friend/classmate SS, her boyfriend, and her two friends who were visiting from out of town. We went to "The Library" of library school fame, where they were having their Crepes and Karaoke night. We started out in the patio, where there was a really nice breeze blowing but when it started getting too windy, we went inside in time for the karaoke to begin. I went from not really in the mood to sing to unexpectedly being able to sing 311's "Amber." Out of our group, I was the only one who decided to get the Crepe and Omelet buffet (12 bucks a pop!) because I was HUN-GRY. I ended up having two crepes and two omelets, which were REALLY good. ([livejournal.com profile] alamariel, I wish you could have been able to join us, but I know you were out of town--but we'll definitely have to plan another outing!)
Yesterday was another rather lazy day with the exception of going on to Robinson for a Target run and a late lunch at Panera. After going back to my place and taking a long nap, I decided I was going to brave making paella, while NG decided to roast some lamb with rosemary. Much to my surprise, the paella came out pretty good! And not surprisingly, NG's lamb came out YUMMY ;-) So it was a nice ending to the weekend.
So NG left earlier today. I'm a bit sad because I probably won't see him before he leaves for New Zealand for a month in June-July, but the time will go by quickly and I'll be seeing him again before I know it. Besides, I'm really glad he's going back home for the first time in a long time...this trip was long overdue.
