I've been pretty much gone from the online world (except for an appearance here and there) because I was pretty occupied during my Thanksgiving Break back home. In spite of the busy-ness, I had a very good time, getting to see my sisters (whom I hadn't seen since August) and spend time with NG. This break was something that I needed badly.
On Wednesday I left Pittsburgh around 5:40 am and managed to arrive in Salisbury at around 11:30...a shade under six hours, even with two bathroom stops! The trip itself went by smoothly and quickly, thanks to the audiobook of "Into the Wild" that I listened to half of the way. I used to not give much thought to audiobooks...but now I'm a believer! It also didn't hurt that I was simply enthralled by the story itself, which made time on the road fly by. Anyway, I don't know why I didn't think of listening to audiobooks on my 6-hour trips before...!
I arrived to almost summer-like weather and to my two already-arrived sisters. NG arrived from upstate NY later that afternoon. In the evening, in preparation for Thanksgiving, I made two pies: my "usual" pumpkin pie and my mom's super-yummy apple pie recipe. Making the pumpkin pie was easy as...well, pie ;-) I was a bit more nervous about the apple pie as I had never made apple pie before. It turns out I had nothing to worry about because it turned to be fairly easy to make and everyone LOVED it.
Thanksgiving Thursday turned out to be a crash course in preparing lots of food on the fly. Thankfully NG took care of the turkey beautifully. It seemed that almost all day long, all of us were preparing food, washing pots and pans, and reusing them to prepare more food. However, in spite a late start, dinner was very good. But we were so exhausted from all the cooking that we slept in 'till noon the next day. Now I know what my mom has to go through :-(
So for the most part, the weekend consisted of hanging out with the sisters and NG, preparing and cleaning up after meals, and going to Wal-Mart (what else was there to do in Salisbury? The movie selections were HORRIBLE). Saturday night we watched "A Streetcar Named Desire", which turned out to be really depressing--PLUS the DVD stalled on the two most suspenseful parts of the movie!
Anyway, before leaving, my dad gave me an early birthday present from my mom: a Cuisinart hand blender! It's PERFECT because I had neither a mixer nor a blender...now I have both! Now I can make some smoothies! Yum! ;-)
So I got back to Pittsburgh today...raining throughout the entire 6-hour trip. But this time I stopped only once! Anywayz, I'm tired so that's all I have to say for now...
