So I'm back in Salisbury, fighting a cold but trying to take it as easy as possible. The trip to Texas was great and I had a very good time. As to not bore, I will present some of the highlights and lowlights.
Highlights:
-Getting to see relatives that I haven't seen in a long time (such as my grandmother)...and meeting many of my cousins' kids for the first time (they're great kids!).
-Having the family (immediate and extended) get together at either my Aunt R's or Girl Cousin R's house for coffee, breakfast, and/or dinner, where we talked, bonded, and just had a good time.
-Girl Cousin R and Boy Cousin R's respective houses, which are next to each other--they are VERY nice, especially Boy Cousin R's house, which he designed himself to look like a Mexican hacienda.
-Going to San Antonio, where we spent a few hours seeing the Alamo, having dinner, and just meandering about.
-Driving on to Austin, where sister M and I went with
ihateboys1213 on her first "night out" to The Beauty Bar, where they just happened to be having an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party ;-). We had a lot of fun and met some cool people. The next day, we made a brief visit to UT Austin, had lunch at the "Las Manitas" Mexican restaurant, and took a brief meander in the park next to the ? river. Before we left, we went to Jo's Coffee, an outdoor coffeehouse. I had a Nut Toffee Latte which was soooo yummy.
-Our rental car and GPS navigator (which was an early Christmas gift to my dad from my mom). It was really nice being able to come and go as we pleased and actually have an idea where we were going!
-The WEATHER. Most of the time, it was in the 70's! I totally forgot that it was December while I was down there. Sure, it got chilly on some days and evenings, but much more bearable than the cruel winds of Pittsburgh. Above all, it was SUNNY, a concept we seem to have forgotten about lately here in the Northeastern US.
-Getting to see my great-uncle (from my dad's side), who is the last of my late grandfather's siblings who is still alive, my great-aunt who is as feisty as ever, as well as a bunch of my dad's cousins. Also, seeing the contrast between my dad's side of the family and my mom's side of the family, yet realizing that the unity of family is still the same...
Lowlights:
-Getting sick for the first time in 1.5 years :-(
-Getting yelled at by an airline hostess for trying to walk over to where my parents were sitting on the plane. Later on,
ihateboys1213, who was sitting with my parents, told me she was being a b**** to everyone. Bitter about having to work on Christmas, perhaps?
-Christmas dinner at a diner in Wilmington. The diner was the only restaurant open for miles, so we really couldn't be choosy.
-Coming home to a very cold house and having to call a repairman because the heat wasn't working. Thankfully, the repairman was quick to fix the heater and my dad rewarded him with some Mexican hot chocolate and a nice tip.
Because of the trip, the official "gift opening" was on the 26th. Along with a few gifts, I got an electric toothbrush, a nice, hefty food processor, and best of all, a new digital camera from N.G.! It's even in my favorite shade of blue! Anyways, I miss the sunny weather of Texas, but it's good to be back!
