End-of- Year Meme
Dec. 29th, 2007 09:26 pmSo, in the tradition of
writerbear81,
slashtacluar, and
intothebluagain, I give you:
End of Year Meme
1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
Went to a conference, orchestrated a Thanksgiving dinner, baked apple pies, and hosted a (small) dinner party.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't really make resolutions for New Years'...I make resolutions whenever the determination hits me. For example, in September, I made it a goal to start working out again, which has had mixed results. I also decided to take up knitting, which was been coming along slowly but surely. I'm sure I'll make more resolutions in the future as the "need" arises ;-)
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Two of my cousins each had baby in the past month...Am I missing anybody else?
4. Did anyone close to you die?
My grandfather
5. What states/countries did you visit?
MD, NJ, NY, DE, TX, D.C...and Ontario, in Canadia! (I feel like I have forgotten some other ones--or maybe I really didn't get around that much this year)
PS-Does a stopover in ATL, Georgia count? O:-)
6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
Money, maybe? ;-)
Also, free time
7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
10/2-The day I found out my grandfather died
11/29-My birthday, it was quite memorable
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting through Summer Term and earning a Master's Degree...'nuf said ;-)
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not quite reaching my potential...but I guess that comes with time.
Failing to manage my time with my online class.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Besides the impacted ears, I was pretty much illness free until now (fighting a cold)
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My autumn-orange sweater, my Levi jeans, my mini MP3 player (feel like I'm missing something...). I also received some awesome stuff like a hand-held blender that I can use to make smoothies with and a digital camera for Christmas!
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
slashtacular for deciding to go to grad school. Things seems to be going really well for him! Congrats on finishing your first semester!
My Sister M for trying to make it in the Big Apple and working toward her dream.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
One of my professors...I won't say whom, but s/he pretty much wasted our time.
Many our country's leaders as well as other leaders worldwide...'nuff said.
Many celebrities who will do appalling things for publicity...and yet I tune in...*help!*
14. Where did most of your money go?
@#%! Rent
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I get really, really, really excited about a lot of things ;-) Well, for one, I was excited about going to Niagara Falls about going to the ALA Conference
16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
"Haiti" by Arcade Fire
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
- happier or sadder? not necessarily sadder, but not the wide-eyed optimistic I was last year
- thinner or fatter? fatter :-(
- richer or poorer? richer on paper but really about the same
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Gone out and get to know Pittsburgh a bit more, knitting, reading, and being creative.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Sitting my a** in front of the computer.
20. How will you be spending Christmas in 2008?
I *might* be spending it on another continent ;-) ;-)
21. How will you be spending New Years?
Most likely with my honey N.G.
22. Did you fall in love in 2007?
Yes. But more than that I learned about what it truly means to love someone and be in a committed relationship.
23. How many one-night stands?
Nope.
24. What was the coolest place you visited?
Niagara Falls :-)
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
"Hate" is such a strong word...more like a bit disappointed in someone who had been kind and helpful to me at first.
26. If you could've been present at one event that happened this year, what would it be?
A Shins concert
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Arcade Fire, Badly Drawn Boy, and Led Zeppelin's "Physical Graffiti", among others...
28. What did you want and got?
A new digital camera
An electric toothbrush
A Master's Degree and a job at a library ;-)
29. Favorite TV show (episode, series, whatever) you saw this year?
Besides catching up on most of Season 2 of "Scrubs", I'm not much of a TV watcher. As for YouTube, that's a whole other story ;-) Let's just say I'm hooked on watching YouTube vlogs, such as "What the Buck!?".
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Well, I do remember seeing "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix", "Love in the Time of Cholera", and "Sicko" in the theaters, but none of them had me wanting to buy the DVD. However, I recently saw an old movie called "All About Eve" which I thought was excellent.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 28 this year and on my birthday, my coworkers brought some treats in my honor. Then, N.G. arrived from Ithaca to spend my birthday and the rest of the weekend with me. And then, N.G., my friends, and I went to this awesome, super-popular Japanese restaurant, where one of my friends managed to get us a table!
32. What one thing would have made your year?
Well, I'd rather not say if I want to keep this a public entry (you can ask me about it though).
Also, if I had done some traveling abroad.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
As expected, I DID go through my "I want to be more fashionable" phase this year, as I tend to do. However, I think in some ways I did succeed. My favorite outfit was my white feminine button-up shirt, autumn-orange sweater, and dark blue jeans. Even though I love my jeans, I tried to wear skirts a little more, and for a certain person, I tried to dress a little more "flirty" ;-)
34. What kept you sane?
N.G., chatting online with my peeps, and hanging out with my Pittsburgh friends.
35. Who did you miss?
N.G. (except when we were with each other), my family, and my UD friends.
36. Who was the best new person you met?
My friend J.H. who's smart, funny, and whom I'm getting to know more about through all the great stories he has to tell. I wish him all the best in his upcoming wedding in '08!
37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007?
True love takes true commitment.
Sometimes you just have to step back.
38. A quote or song lyric that sums up your year
Don't really have one, sorry. I'll edit if I come up with one.
So tomorrow I might head over to Ithaca to spend New Years' with N.G. provided that the weather's not too bad. In case I don't get the chance to write again...Happy New Years' everyone! Get ready for 2008!
