So there's this movie coming out called "The Other Boleyn Girl" that's about two sisters vying for the affections of King Henry VIII (who was already married but hey, with a chop of the wife's head, the problem is solved!). Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson play the Boleyn sisters and the part of King Henry VIII is played by Eric Bana.
...Eric Bana!?
I mean, I'm happy for him that he got the part and YES, he is HAWWWT...but that's exactly the problem! He's TOO HOT for this part! In reality, King Henry VIII was more than likely a nasty-looking man with a beer belly...like those guys who work as car dealers or who are vice principals of middle schools...the LAST person you would EVER thinking of &%*!ing.
Then again, what holds true today, more than likely held true back then: Even the ugliest, most disgusting men, if they have the money and the power, WILL get the poontang!

I thought that Henry was supposed to be pretty good looking when he was younger? ::shrugs:: Though it's not as though I've ever seen a picture of him from his younger days... and I don't know what age he would have been at the point in time with Ann Boleyn either...

You're right...

After I wrote this post, I went to IMDB.com and in the page for the movie, there was an actual forum topic about Eric Bana being too handsome for the part (so I guess I wasn't the only person to think this). But yeah, a lot of people said the same thing: that Henry VIII was actually pretty good looking in his younger days and that he didn't become obese until later in his life. There were also comments about how he was actually a redhead and that they should have portrayed that in the movie. So I must admit that my image of Henry VIII was shaped by paintings of his later years and the way he had been portrayed in past movies ("Anne of the Thousand Days").

Wait, wait... you mean, I really did KNOW something?? ::laughter:: Go me! I have also heard the redhead thing, possibly from the same source that I learned that he was fairly good looking as a younger guy... but I have no idea where I got any of this by now - It was too long ago. :p :)

Uhhh, I mean...(The ugliest men), if they have the money and the power, WILL encounter women who are quite willing to, um, share their affections ;-)
